What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small, damaged veins that appear on the surface of the skin. They often look like spider webs or tree branches and can be red, purple, or blue. Spider veins commonly appear on the legs and face.

They're caused by weakened valves in the veins that allow blood to flow backward and pool, causing the veins to enlarge. Factors that can contribute to spider veins include genetics, hormonal changes, sun exposure, and standing or sitting for long periods.

Our Spider Vein Treatments

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein, which causes the vein to scar and collapse. Blood is then rerouted through healthier veins, and the collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.

Laser Vein Therapy

This non-invasive treatment uses laser energy to target and destroy the unwanted veins without damaging the surrounding skin. The body then naturally eliminates the treated veins over time, reducing their appearance.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

Similar to laser therapy, IPL uses high-intensity pulses of light to target the blood vessels that make up spider veins. The light is converted to heat, which damages the vein and causes it to gradually fade from view.

What to Expect

Results vary depending on the treatment chosen and the severity of the spider veins. Some treatments may require multiple sessions for optimal results, typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

After treatment, you may experience some redness, bruising, or swelling, but these side effects are temporary and should resolve within a few days to weeks.
